Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia

YOU the class fundraiser

In Uncategorized on January 17, 2012 at 2:22 pm

Throughout the fall of 2011, students in Yoga 11 at Central Kings High School came together to fundraise for a cause. But before they chose which one, they were given an equal opportunity to state their case for a charity and vote for their favorite.

“The students narrowed it down to three charities,” says Greg Milne the teacher who helped arrange the fundraiser.  “After sharing their stories, we discovered that a lot of  students have a connection to Alzheimer’s disease in their family or knew someone living with it.  It was clear the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia was the right choice.”

The students planned activities including a jelly bean guess and a pie in the face contest in the cafeteria. The community and the whole student body supported the events and were eager to get involved.  Morgan Haley is one of the 20 students in Yoga 11 who helped to organize the events.

“It was a lot of fun and my class really got into it,” says Morgan. “We didn’t know how successful it would be since it was our first year. We’re really proud we were able to raise over $1,200 for the Society.”

Thank YOU Central Kings High School students for being leaders in your community. YOU should be extremely proud of your efforts and according to your teacher, YOU have set the bar for next semester when Yoga students will fundraise again.

Can YOU motivate your class to fundraise for the Alzheimer Society?
